MIRZA ABDOLLAH FARAHANI

 

He was born in Tehran in 1843 to the great musician family of Farahani's, who performed for the King. He played both Tar and Setar, but he is famous for having been a great Setar player. Today his personal setting of the persian music's Radif is used as a reference and known as the Mirza Abdollah Radif. His Masters were his own father Agha Ali Akbar Khan Farahani, his brother Mirza Hassan, his cousin Agha Gholam Hossein and Seyyed Ahmad. Some of his most famous pupils were Abolhassan Saba, Irani Mojarad, Hossein Khalifeh and Ali Naghi Vaziri who transformed his Radif to notation. He died in 1918.
